A large part of the Brasilian population considers themselves to be Catholic.
As you probably already know, the new pope is Argentinean.
What you probably did't know is that Argentina and Brazil are pretty much rivals. Most of it stems from soccer.
Perhaps you also didn't know that a Brasilian was in the running to become the next pope.
So when the news came out that the new pope was from Argentina, I heard a lot of this: Great, Argintena has the best soccer player in the world, and now they get the pope too!
I got a kick out of it, I hope you will too.
